What is the cost?

CBT: From 27th April, 2009 to 30th April, 2010 prices are £100 where we supply the bike, scooter or moped and £85 where the pupil supplies his or her own. Discounts may apply - see below.

With us, you pay for the course and not for the day. Everyone learns at their own pace and, whilst a day is usually sufficient to complete the course, for a variety of reasons, this is not always the case. We do not see any reason to penalise anyone for this and therefore believe that, having paid for the course you should not have to pay any more just because it takes longer.

We reserve the right to refuse to continue training at any stage in circumstance such as but not limited to: refusal to pay attention; refusal to do as asked; continuing to do something when asked not to; persistent use of foul language; persistent abuse of the instructor or another pupil or pupils.

Standard Test Training and DAS courses: On 27th April, 2009, the DSA introduced the new test in modular form - see under "The New Test" - and, in consequence, we do not know with absolute certainty what is going to be the most effective way of training for this new test. We hope we have got it right but there may be some alterations to make to the courses: this may be no more than fine tuning; whilst we trust that it will be no more than that, we cannot guarantee that the costs quoted below will apply when you book your course. The government has decided to increase test fees with effect from 5th October and courses where the test takes place on or after that date will be increased accordingly. The price which will apply is the price which you will be quoted when you book your course or courses. How we see it at the moment is what is set out below.

As an example, a three day course will consist of three days of training followed by the Module 1 test on another day, normally the day following the last day of training. Where we are supplying the bike, the price includes not only the tuition but also the test fee and the hire of the bike and that in turn includes the petrol and the insurance. Where the pupil supplies his or her own bike, it just includes the tuition and the test fee. Price in the former case would be £400 and in the latter case, £370. Where the pupil has done his or her CBT with us, the prices are £350 and £320 respectively. These figures are based on the test being taken in Poole but there is very limited availability at that site and the nearest alternatives are Bristol, Exeter or Gosport. Should any of these test centres be used, then a premium will be charged and whilst it may vary, it should not exceed £120. It is anticipated that the pupil will then be ready to move on to Module 2 with little in the way of further training and the all inclusive cost would be £120 using one of our bikes and £115 for a pupil on his or her own bike for this module. Former CBT pupils of ours will pay £5 less for either course.

Refresher Courses: Using our bike, cost of the first hour is £25 and £22.50 per hour thereafter. A pupil using his or her own bike will be charged £22.50 for the first hour and £20 thereafter.

Assessment Courses: These usually last about an hour and are free of charge where they are intended to lead to another course with us but otherwise are charged as Refresher Courses.

Discounts are available on all courses to: NHS staff; members of the Armed Forces; members of the immediate families of NHS staff and members of the Armed Forces; and NUS students. A discount is also available on Standard Test Training Courses and DAS courses only, where two or more pupils book their course together and commit to doing the course together. In each case, the discount is approximately ten per cent of the full price but tends to be rounded up or down to the nearest five pounds. Only one discount per person per course is available: ie, two NUS students booking a course together would only get one discount, not two.

Insurance: our bikes are all insured which means that, if you have an accident and damage one of our bikes or other property, it will be covered by the insurance. However, as with all insurance policies, the full loss is not covered by the policy and the bit that is not covered, the excess, would have to be paid. Our excess is £200 and we reserve the right to ask you to pay up to that amount in the event of a claim being made under the policy. However, if the damage is minor and does not warrant a claim being made under the policy, we shall bear the full loss ourselves and not ask you to pay a penny.
